We have a few guidelines to keep you safe while building your independence...

Rules, Routines, Education, Training and Employment

Everyone has rules to follow in some aspect of life. Without rules, there would be no structure. We believe it is important to have rules at Twin Care as this will prepare you for adulthood and independence. Furthermore, having routines is also important as this will enable you to keep on track and manage your time effectively. At Twin Care, we require you to be in education, employment or training. You will be required to attend these places on the days that have been set on your plan. However, if you are genuinely not feeling well then you must make a call to inform your place of education or work/training why you are unable to attend.

Though most people are usually in some sort of education, work or training, this may not be the case in your situation. In this instance, we will be expecting you to actively seek a place of education, work or training that you may attend with our support. Not actively looking for a place could affect you living here, and we may have to arrange to allocate you elsewhere.

We know that everyone needs a little relaxation from time to time, which is why if you are free on a weekend you can lie ins and watch movies or breakfast in bed if you would like to make it.

We expect you to:

  • Stay safe at all times
  • Keep the house tidy
  • Stay at least 3 or 4 nights at the home (subject to agreements)
  • Always answer your phone (communication is very important)
  • If you miss our call you must ring back as soon as possible.
  • Keep media volume level to a low level that is acceptable or use headphones
  • Clean your room at least once a week
  • Make sure your cooking area is clean and hygienic
  • Do your laundry at least twice a week and keep your clothes in your basket
  • Attend your place of education, work or training on the days expected
  • Apply for part-time jobs to earn some extra money
  • Be respectful and friendly to everyone within the home including visitors
  • Be respectful and friendly to our neighbours outside of the home
  • Have family and friends to come to visit you at your home
  • Make sure your visitors leave the home at the agreed time and make sure they leave quietly so they do not disturb our neighbours
  • Plan and budget a weekly menu
  • Prepare a shopping list and do your weekly shop
  • Prepare at least one meal every week using fresh ingredients
  • Budget and manage your money every week to make sure you have enough to complete everything you have planned.
  • Never smoke in your room or anywhere in your home (this is a serious fire hazard and puts everyone in the home at risk)
  • Never bring alcohol, drugs or legal highs in the home
  • Never swear or shout in the home
  • Don’t hang around outside of the home alone or with your friends

Physical Interventions and Sanctions

Here at Twin Care, we do not use any sanctions to manage your behaviour. Instead, we would expect you to behave in a manner that young adult behaves as they are getting prepared to move into independent adulthood. We understand that there may be times you are feeling down and upset thinking about the future. Remember that our staff are here to help, and offer support, advice and guidance. Sometimes all it takes is someone to have chat with to make you feel better and confident about the future. We understand that planning to move into independence and adulthood can be quite scary. Furthermore, as well as sanctions we will not physically take hold of you unless it is an extreme circumstance. If we feel like you are displaying behaviour that is dangerous to yourself or others at the home, or you are vandalising the home then we will call the police for assistance. It is vital to remember that this will be the case wherever you decide to live as you progress through life, therefore it is important that you take full responsibility for your behaviour and actions.
